We concluded in my last post that my Master Bedroom was in desperate need of a headboard for my King Size bed. Was there money to buy a headboard? NOPE!
With this picture as my inspiration for a headboard (and over all room colour scheme/style) I began to search for long pillows or bench seat cushions. I soon discovered that you don't find quality used pillows on Craigslist, especially this kind. And they sell online for over $100. I thought about having multiple separated pillows but nothing came of that either.

While doing my usual Craigslist search in the Free Classified section I stumble across a beautiful door. I had to have it! Why was someone giving it away for free? This treasure was meant for me. So I emailed promptly and got a response saying that the door was no longer available and that the seller was holding it for someone else to come take a look. I quickly said, "If they pass, please call me. Are you holding it for them? I really want it :p" (email Feb 4, 2011) The email I got in response said, "Yes, they ask to hold it for them, they are coming before noon and I will let you know if they will not show up or take it". I was pretty sure my dream door was gone because how come anyone not take such a gorgeous freebie? - See Email Conversation on the side- Although the door was an hour drive away, I knew it would be worth the time and gas money, so my sister in-law and I picked it up the next day. Did I consider whether or not he door would fit in my hatchback? No! I wish I had a picture of us with the door in my car. If you picture 2 people in the front seats with the seats slid all the way forward and the tilt of the seats fully straight up, then you get the idea. I drove home with my legs awkwardly squished under the steering wheel, but overjoyed that "I" of all the people on Craigslist, got this Frugal Find! | Hi Shelsea, |
The other side of this door is actually the side that I ended up displaying as my headboard. I used a wire brush and a hammer and some stain to rough it up. Then I turned is sideways and hung it the same way as my last door project. Voila! A Headboard that cost me $0.00! (I already had the stain)
